Chief of Staff/Veterinarian
Dr. Douglas Cotler earned his undergraduate B.A. degree in Political Science and Business Marketing with an emphasis in Law and Literature from Syracuse University in 1990 (GO ORANGE!!!) He spent a semester of his junior year in London, England and had the opportunity to travel through England, Scotland, Wales, Spain, Gibralter, Greece, Holland and Morocco.
He then returned to Temple University in Philadelphia (his home town) for graduate school to complete his prerequisites for Veterinary School. He earned his DVM degree (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) in 1997 from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed his senior clinical year at Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
He started his veterinary career in Sayville Long Island at the Sayville Hospital For Animals and spent a fantastic 4 years learning the ropes of a fast paced, quality veterinary hospital with the help and tutelage of Dr. Bob Frosch and Dr. Dom DiMartino. After 10 years as a staff doctor at South Brunswick Animal Hospital (SBAH), Dr. Cotler purchased SBAH from Dr. John Mitko in 2011. His wife Beth works behind the scenes and handles many administrative tasks so Dr. Cotler can remain focused primarily on the needs of his patients and their families. Together, they have 2 sons (Noah and Ryan), 3 dogs (Carib, Disney, Buster), 3 cats (Platinum, Stripes, Saki), a bird (Paco), a turtle (James), hermit crabs, and fish (inside and outside)!
When not at work and not taking care of pets at home, he is constantly running from soccer games to wrestling matches, and from basketball games to baseball games and band recitles with his two incredibly active sons. He is also interested in Poker, Fishing, Music (he plays Piano) and especially Billy Joel and Jimmy Buffett!
